September, 2019. LANXESS India completes 10 successful years of its operations at its Nagda site - The flagship production site for the business unit Advanced Industrial Intermediates.
Today, LANXESS India has more than quadrupled its business since it started this journey exactly 10 years ago, acquiring Gwalior Chemicals and investing its energies in converting the site into a fully compliant and productive manufacturing site.
However the start was challenging. Unaware of the new acquirers, it had all emotions woven into one big question – What’s the future?
As the air cleared, LANXESS announced the acquisition of the chemical and wind power assets of Mumbai based specialty chemical manufacturer Gwalior Chemical Industries for an aggregate value of 82.4 million euros.
The NAGDA team concertedly pushed boundaries in ensuring the site was compliant and safe for all workers.
Capacity enhancement and de-bottlenecking of some processes were made using available equipment at site & with minimum investments. While technological advancements continued, LANXESS was sensitive and quick to recognize the problem of water scarcity in the region.
To tackle this concern, LANXESS took effective steps. It started treating sewage water at STP & RO plant for use in process plants and utilities…And the results followed!
LANXESS won the Water Resource Management Award in December 2009 and by 2011, LANXESS’ quality benchmark started getting recognized and awarded at the highest levels. It bagged the prestigious IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award, the highest category of award for quality from an Indian industry body. With the awards coming in, LANXESS grew in its production capabilities too.
LANXESS has continually prioritized sustainable development. It did not want to remain dependent on conventional power and had a clear vision of reducing its carbon footprint thereby installing a cogeneration plant in the year 2010. The idea was remarkable as the cogen was run on soya husk which was a waste product procured from the nearby farms in Nagda.
LANXESS has always been caring of its surroundings. The organization routinely planted thousands of trees on International World Environment Days and also created awareness among the local communities through various initiatives.
LANXESS touched the lives of the residents in many ways through its social outreach programs. From providing an x-ray machine to dialysis machines to sonography machine to the Nagda civil hospital to setting up e-learning classrooms in the Nagda government college; setting up a digital library and a culture & recreation centre….LANXESS has adopted the town of Nagda like its very own The residents of Nagda express their thankfulness to LANXESS for its social commitment. Like Mohan Lal, who now doesn’t need to travel 40 kms for his dialysis. The doctors at the civil hospital now find themselves better equipped to tackle medical situations. The youth has benefited immensely through the LANXESS supported library creating an inspiring academic environment. As LANXESS touched the lives of the people of Nagda, it also played a major role in the overall development in the quality of life of its employees
The site has also set up a Medical emergency service within its premises for the first level of treatment LANXESS have come a long way. Over the years, Nagda has evolved exponentially from one milestone to another.
